Career Plan
(Action and Strategies)
1. Build a Network
For the next 12 months, I will expand my network within the business and sporting industry by connecting with at least 4 new people per month (minimum 48 in total). This group will include players, coaches, and industry professionals. In order to complete this, I will use places such as Linkedin, my current work environments, local sport facilities and competitions. I will also attend 5 plus related tournaments/enviroments where I will introduce myself to 2 new people per event and follow up within a 48-hour time frame to ensure an ongoing professional relationship.
2. Get Hands-On Experience
Within the next 12 months I will gain practical hands - on experience in the golf industry by getting more involved and maintaining the operational side of the golf environment. I will aim to work 28 hours weekly of applied experience, putting more focus into areas of customer service, event coordination, retail operation and customer interaction. I will actively learn how golf facilities operate from the business eye, including how services can be delivered effectively, how customer satisfaction is managed and improved and what is needed for a day of success. I will also understand how members, stakeholders and individuals are and can be supported, which will overall link my interest to an interest of athlete management.
Reflection upon these experiences can help me develop the well rounded understanding of both the operational and commercial side, which will further ready me for future roles.
3. Gain Insight into Athlete Representation and Career Pathways
Developing understanding of athlete management and representation is important. In the next year I will conduct at least 4 structured informational conversations with individuals such as coaches, high performance staff and/or experienced individuals to gain insight into career pathways, athlete support systems, and the commercial side of sport. I will ensure each interaction has purpose, and will prepare targeted questions and will reflect on the key takeaways at the end of each discussion. Here I can find common skills, experience and expectations required within these management roles. Upon finishing these interactions, I will summarize my findings into a consolidation of insights, enabling me to better understand the pathways and opportunities into athlete representation and guide my future development.
